Love That Anchors the Soul

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:1
For the past two Sundays, I have been preaching from the pulpit about Love. And as I prayed this week, I sensed in my spirit that I was not quite finished. So today, I want to conclude that message here, not from the pulpit, but from my heart. There are Scriptures we learn early in life, verses we’ve carried for years, so deeply woven into our hearts that we can speak them without even thinking.
John 3:16 is one of those verses. In fact, it was one of the very first Scriptures I memorized as a child.
There are moments when a familiar verse becomes a lifeline. During this recent season of walking through my health journey, John 3:16 was no longer just a well-known passage. It became my anchor. In the quiet moments, in the fatigue, and in the unknowns. The Holy Spirit kept bringing one phrase to my heart: “Whoever believes in Him shall not perish…”
I meditated on those words. I held onto them. There were days when my body felt weak. Days when uncertainty tried to speak louder than faith. Days when I did not know how everything would unfold. But in the middle of it all, I had peace. Not because I knew the outcome. But because I knew the promise. This life is not the end of my story. No matter what was happening in my body, I would not perish. Praise the Lord, my eternity was and is secure. I belong to Jesus. The Holy Spirit did not remove every symptom in that moment. The excruciating pain and the symptoms were real. But there was never fear. There was no anxiety, only assurance. He reminded me that eternal life is not just something we talk about. It is the believer's security right now. When Jesus spoke these words to Nicodemus, He was revealing more than a plan of salvation. He was revealing the heart of the Father. I encourage you to read John 3:1–16. “For God so loved…”
Before there was healing, there was love. Before there was understanding, there was love. Before there was certainty, there was love. God did not love us because we are strong. He loved us while we were weak. He did not love us because we are perfect. He loved us while we were still sinners. And that love changes everything. It changes how you face uncertainty. How you walk through a diagnosis. How you endure hardship. How you look at eternity.
Romans 8 reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38–39). Not death, not life, not present struggle, not future fears. If nothing can separate you, then even a diagnosis cannot cancel your destiny. Even in a hospital room, even during treatment, and even when you don’t have answers. Your heavenly Father loves you. This is for anyone reading this. If you are facing uncertainty. If fear has been knocking at your door. If your body, your family, your finances, or your future feels unstable. And I want to say this clearly. “Whoever believes in Him shall not perish…” That is not denial of reality. That is eternal perspective. The Holy Spirit wants to anchor your heart in something stronger than circumstances. He wants to remind you that you are not defined by what you are walking through. You are defined by who you belong to. And you belong to a God who so loved. Love that sacrifices, secures, steadies, and holds. I am living proof that when you truly rest in the love of Christ, it brings peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). It does not mean you will not walk through valleys. It means you will not walk through them alone. Scripture says, …“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). And no matter how the journey unfolds, when you have a relationship with Jesus, your eternity is secure. That is an assurance that settles the heart. So I encourage you: When fear tries to arise, hold on to that Truth. When the diagnosis feels overwhelming, hold on to that Truth. When the future feels uncertain, hold on to that Truth.
“Whoever believes in Him shall not perish…”
Anchor your soul there.
Let the Holy Spirit remind you daily that you are loved, eternally secure, and held by a faithful Father.
If you are reading this and you are struggling in any way, I want you to know I am praying for you.
I am praying that the Holy Spirit would rise up and steady your heart. I am praying that peace would rise up and replace fear. I am praying that the truth of John 3:16 would anchor you in the middle of uncertainty.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for loving us with an undeniable, sacrificial, eternal love. Thank You that we do not have to fear what tomorrow holds because You hold our eternity. Holy Spirit, anchor every heart reading this in the truth of John 3:16. Replace fear with peace and anxiety with assurance. Remind us that we belong to You and that nothing can separate us from Your love. Strengthen those walking through uncertainty. Heal bodies. Calm minds. Restore hope. Let Your love be the foundation beneath our feet. In the mighty, powerful, matchless Name of Jesus. Amen.
If you do not know Jesus, or you feel far from Him, this is your moment. Jesus taught that to enter the Kingdom of God, we must be born again, made new through faith in Him. If you are unsure what that means or have never made that decision, I encourage you not to ignore this stirring in your heart. Connect with a mature believer who can walk with you into this life-changing step, into baptism, and into new life in Jesus Christ. Do not try to walk this journey alone. Get planted. Find a Bible-teaching, Holy Spirit-filled church family that will pray for you, love you, disciple you, and walk alongside you. Pursue Jesus with your whole heart, and watch Him transform your life from the inside out.
