Silver and Gold or Something Greater?

“When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.” Acts 3:3

Have you ever gone looking for something you thought you wanted, only to find what you truly needed?

Have you ever had someone placed in your path that changed the trajectory of your life?

I believe many of us are living answers to those very questions.

“This man expected one thing and received so much more.”

I believe with all my heart that God not only wants to do something new in our lives; He wants to do something more.

In Acts chapter three, we meet a man who had been lame from birth. Every day, he was carried to the gate called Beautiful and positioned where people passed by on their way to pray. He had never walked, never run, never even stood on his own strength, yet he was faithful to have himself placed where the presence of God was near. He came each day with the same posture, the same position, and the same expectation. He was not looking for transformation. He was looking for survival.

He may have been limited in his body, but he was wise in his positioning. He did not isolate himself. He did not hide where no one could see him. He placed himself where faith moved, where prayer flowed, where God’s people gathered. And sometimes, that alone is an act of faith, showing up again when nothing has changed yet, trusting that one day God will interrupt the ordinary with the extraordinary.

When Peter and John approached, the man asked for money. That was all he expected. Spare change. Enough to make it through another day. But Scripture tells us that Peter fixed his eyes on him and said, “Look at us.” This was more than eye contact; it was an invitation to lift his expectation. Heaven was about to interrupt what this man thought he needed.

Peter then spoke words that still echo through generations: “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

This man reached for coins, but instead he received courage. He expected temporary help and encountered permanent change. He came asking for provision and instead left with purpose. What he wanted was money. What he needed was healing. And God, in His mercy, gave him what would transform his life.

Have you ever had God answer a prayer in a way you did not expect, and later realized it changed everything?

Have you ever looked back and recognized that the person, the delay, the interruption, or the closed door was actually the moment God shifted your future?

How often do we come before God asking Him to fix a moment, when He is actually transforming a lifetime?

How many times do we pray for relief when He is preparing release, restoration, and renewal?

In those moments, my prayer is no longer simply for what I desire, but for what will glorify Him.

I desire to pray God’s will, not my own.  To ask not only, “Lord, what do I need?” but “Father, what will bring You glory in this season?”

There are times when we ask God in prayer to get us out of a situation, when perhaps the better prayer is to ask Him to get us through it.

Scripture reminds us that He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. There are seasons when what we call delay is actually divine positioning. There are moments when the closed door is not rejection, but protection. Some interruptions are not inconveniences, but invitations into our next season.

Peter did not only speak healing. He reached down, took the man by the hand, and lifted him up. Healing flowed not only through declaration, but through connection. Compassion met obedience. Faith met action. And instantly, strength entered ankles that had never known stability.

That day, the man did not walk into the temple as a beggar. He walked in as a worshiper. His posture changed. His identity shifted. His testimony began.

I believe the Holy Spirit is revealing to many of us right now: Stop measuring God’s faithfulness by what you asked for and start praising Him for what He knows you need. Stop limiting God to silver and gold when He is ready to release healing, clarity, strength, direction, and new beginnings.

Because when Jesus steps into your situation, you may not receive what you requested, but you will receive what is required for where He is taking you next.

And sometimes… what you need will change everything.

Heavenly Father,We thank You that You are a faithful Father who sees beyond our requests and knows the deep needs of our hearts. Forgive us for the times we limited You to what we could understand, when You were ready to release what only You could accomplish.

Today, we surrender our desires to Your will. Teach us to pray not only for what we want, but for what will glorify You. Align our hearts with Your purpose and our prayers with Your plans.

Holy Spirit, open our eyes to divine appointments. Teach us to recognize when You are interrupting our plans to align us with destiny. Heal what has been broken, strengthen what has been weak, and give us the courage to rise when You say, “Walk.”

We declare that we will not settle for survival when You have called us to transformation. Lead us through every Beautiful Gate moment You have prepared for us.  In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, Amen.

If you are reading this and you do not know Jesus, or you feel far from Him, this is your moment. Jesus taught that to enter the Kingdom of God, we must be born again, made new through faith in Him. If you are unsure what that means or have never made that decision, I encourage you to connect with a mature believer who can walk with you into this life-changing step, into baptism, and into new life in Jesus Christ.

Get planted. Find a Bible-teaching, Holy Spirit-filled church family that will pray for you, love you, disciple you, and walk alongside you. Pursue Jesus with your whole heart and watch Him transform your life.
